Tuesday Word Bytes; Mmmm, Mmmm, Mmmm!

I LOVE words!  I think language is the best part of being a human.  There's nothing as good as taking a new word and rolling it around the inside of my mouth and feeling how it tastes.

Todays word;

Jiggery-pokery; (jig-er-ee-po-ker-ee)

The origin of this word seems to come from Scots dialect; joukery-pawkery, jouk - to dodge and pawk - to trick.

So jiggery-pokery is tricking someone by being dodgy, eluding the truth, maybe not telling all the truth.

Some examples of jiggery-pokery...

If a person is skulking around the neighborhood, hiding behind garbage cans, peeking around corners, one might ask what jiggery-pokery that person was up to!

The Artful Dodger was up to jiggery-pokery, as was his idol, Fagan!

Henry Higgins was guilty of jiggery-pokery!

What's your favorite word this week?

Oh, this is certainly a fun one to say! I'll have to find a way to sneak it into conversation sometime! And...You used shots from two of my favorite movies!! I LOVE musicals!
