I LOVE words! I think language is the best part of being a human. There's nothing as good as taking a new word and rolling it around the inside of my mouth and feeling how it tastes.
Todays word;
Deipnosophist (dipe-nos-oh-fist)
Greek origin: deipnon ( meal) + sophistes (wise)
A person skilled at table talk.
A master of the art of dining, particularly learned conversation.
Think of Downton Abbey, and how often everything was painstakingly thought of with the intension of providing a pleasant and interesting dining experience. (And how often it went catastrophically wrong!)

Glittering conversation was as important as the fare served.

Corn-on-the-cob.
A fun word...I never would have guessed its meaning. :) (visiting from Roses of Inspiration).
I don't know, but I like this feature.
This is definitely my mom! I have never met a woman who is more gifted at carrying on a conversation at the table with guests :)
Thanks for sharing with Roses of Inspiration. Hugs!
I enjoy words, too, and LOVE to play Scrabble, but I have to admit I skim over words sometimes when I'm reading unless I just don't get the gist of it from the "root" or rest of the sentence it is in. I've never watch Downton Abbey as we have not owned a television for years.
Have a great weekend!
p.s. I just this a.m. found your comment at my blog and left an answer to your question. http://foothillsofthegreatsmokymountains.blogspot.com/2007/04/blog-post.html
